Barnsley will be looking to make amends for a heavy 4-1 loss to Sheffield United when they welcome Fulham at their Oakwell stadium in the opening match of the season. The Tykes experienced all sorts of problems at the back in the defeat to the Blades in their last warm-up game, but it has to be noted that they recorded four wins in pre-season. Barnsley produce much better showings at home than on the travels, but they face a difficult task in Saturday’s football match against Fulham who are determined to return to the English elite division.
Key player from the last season Ryan Babel left the club and in his absence a man to watch in the away team will be Serbia international Aleksandar Mitrovic, who is likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders. Scott Parker still has a number of high-profile footballers to choose from, therefore, away win should be considered.
HIGHLIGHTED PLAYER (ADAM DAVIES):
Adam Davis is a German-born footballer who plays for Championship side Barnsley as a goalkeeper. The 185-cm-tall shoot-stopper began his youth career at Everton and in 2012 he signed a contract with Sheffield Wednesday. However, he never managed to make a first-team appearance for the Owls. Due to the lack of first team action, he decided to leave the club in 2014.
Adam Davies, who was born in Rinteln, Germany on 17 July, 1992, moved to Barnsley on 13 June, 2014. He made his debut for the club against Crawley Town in the opening match of the 2014/2015 campaign and he quickly established himself as a first-choice goalkeeper. His contract with Barnsley expires on 30 June, 2017, but the deal could be extended for a further year.
Adam Davies conceded 82 goals, while keeping 26 clean sheets in 74 appearances for Barnsley in all competitions. During his spell at Everton U23 he managed to keep eight clean sheets in 22 appearances for the club.
HIGHLIGHTED TEAM (FULHAM):
Fulham are a club from London that play in the Premier League. The capital club dropped to the English second tier at the end of the 2013/2014 Premier League campaign after failing to impress in the elite competition, but managed to return in season 2018/2019.
Fulham were founded in 1879 and they play their home matches at Craven Cottage. Fulham are the oldest-established club from the English capital to have played in the top flight.
Fulham finished the 2008/2009 Premier League campaign in seventh place in the standings and that is considered the team’s biggest success, speaking of their participation in the Premier League.
The Cottagers played in the Europa League twice and they did well to reach the FA Cup final in 1975, but they were beaten by their local rivals West Ham United in the title game (0-2). Chelsea are regarded as Fulham’s bitter rivals as well and the two teams take on each other in the North London derby.
