All eyes will be on Old Trafford when Manchester United and Chelsea square off against each other in the Premier League derby in the opening match of the season. The Red Devils are on a five-game winless run in the English top flight and, no doubt, they are eager to put an end to the negative trend. Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer did well to keep hold of a number of first-team regulars in the summer transfer window and given Chelsea’s transfer ban, we believe that there is a big value in betting on the hosts.
The Blues continue life without Belgian superstar Eden Hazard, who joined Real Madrid at the start of the summer transfer window and given the number of young and unexperienced players in Frank Lampard’s team, we predict that the capital club will return home empty-handed from the trip to Manchester.
HIGHLIGHTED PLAYER (MARCUS RASHFORD):
Marcus Rashford is one of the most talented English footballers. Rashford was born in Wythenshawe, Manchester on October 31, 1997 and he began his youth career at Fletcher Moss Rangers. Manchester United scouts spotted him in 2005 when he joined the famous Premier League club.
The pacey footballer, who is capable of playing as both winger and striker, marked his Manchester United first-team debut with two goals in a 5-1 crushing of Midtjylland in the Europa League.
Marcus Rashford scored seven goals in 35 appearances for the Red Devils in the 2017/2018 Premier League season. Speaking of his international debut, the Manchester United attacker played his first match for England against Australia on May 27, 2016 and he did well to find the net in a 2-1 win over the Socceroos.
After producing fine displays with Manchester United in the 2017/2018 season, Marcus Rashford was named in the 23-man England national team squad that will take part in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
HIGHLIGHTED TEAM (CHELSEA):
Over the years Chelsea have established themselves as one of the dominant forces in the English Premier League. Roberto Di Matteo helped the team win their first ever Champions League trophy (2011/2012), but it has to be noted that they were more than fortunate to beat Bayern Munich in the title game.
Chelsea have been playing at Stamford Bridge since 1876 and they are a real force to be reckoned with at home. The Blues have won seven FA Cups, five League Cups, two UEFA Cup Winners’ Cups and the UEFA Europa League. Rafael Benitez was in charge of the team that faced Benfica in the 2012/2013 Europa League final, with Branislav Ivanovic scoring the winner for the Blues in the title clash.
After lifting the 2014/2015 Premier League trophy, the Blues largely struggled in the next campaign, which saw Jose Mourinho’s second spell with the club come to an end, and Antoine Conte went over to take the reigns for the 2016/2017 season.
