Arsenal take on Newcastle United at St. James’ Park in the opening match of the 2019/2020 season. The Gunners are on a quest to regain their spot in the Champions League and the fact that Unai Emery managed to keep hold of key players in the summer transfer window, is surely giving fans a reason for optimism ahead of the trip to Tyneside.
The capital club are likely to stick to their attacking style of play and seeing that the Magpies start life without Ayoze Perez and Salomon Rondon, we believe that there is a big value in betting on Unai Emery’s charges. In previous two meetings between the two teams in the English top flight Arsenal emerged triumphant and we do not believe that Newcastle United are capable of putting an end to the negative trend. A man to watch in the away team will be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
HIGHLIGHTED PLAYER (JAMAAL LASCELLES):
Born in Derby on November 11, 1993, Jamaal Lascelles is an English footballer who plays for Newcastle United as a defender. Lascelles began his youth career at Nottingham Forest and he continued playing for the Reds on senior level.
After scoring two goals in 32 appearances for Forest, Jamaal Lascelles moved to Newcastle United in 2014 and he has been playing for the Magpies ever since. The 188-cm-tall centre-back has a deal with Newcastle United, which should expire in June, 2023. Jamaal Lascelles made two appearances for England U21, but he has yet to make his senior debut with the Three Lions.
Speaking of his individual honours, the English defender was part of PFA Team of the Year for the 2016/2017 Championship season. Jamaal Lascelles scored three goals in 35 appearances for Newcastle United in the 2017/2018 Premier League season, helping Rafa Benitez’s team secure yet another top flight survival.
HIGHLIGHTED TEAM (ARSENAL):
Arsenal are regarded as one of the best English teams. The Gunners have won 12 FA Cup trophies, 13 league titles and two League Cups, but they have yet to lift the Champions League trophy. Arsene Wenger’s team were on the verge of beating Barcelona in the Champions League final back in 2006, but they eventually failed to win the prestigious title.
Arsenal used to play their homes at Highbury, but in 2006 they moved to the Emirates Stadium. The capacity of the stadium is 60,260. The Gunners won their last Premier League trophy back in 2004, with the capital club going through the season without a single loss. The likes of Thierry Henry, Denis Bergkamp and Robert Pires were part of the team back then, but Arsenal have not won the league trophy ever since.
Arsenal was founded by Woolwich munitions workers as Dial Square back in 1886. It is well known that Tottenham Hotspur are Arsenal’s fiercest rivals and there have always been fireworks when the two local rivals meet in the North London derby.
