14 JULY 2019 Scottish League Cup : St . Mirren vs Dunfermline

Date : 14 JULY 2019 Time : 22 : 00 PM Match : St. Mirren vs Dunfermline Athletic
Analysis
St Mirren will kick their season off as they host Dunfermline Athletic at St Mirren Park in their opening game of the Scottish League Cup. Who will come out on top?
St Mirren will enjoy playing once again in the Scottish Premiership after the Paisley club was able to survive the drop after winning the play-offs at the end of last season.
The Buddies had to play promotion hopefuls Dundee United in a double header. The first game at Tannadice ended goalless, with a repeat outcome in the return leg meaning that the sides had to go to penalties. St Mirren emerged victorious following a sublime penalty shoot-out in which Dundee United were unable to score any of the 4 penalties they took, 2 of which were saved by Hladky.
Oran Kearney left the club earlier on in the month, with ex-St Mirren player Jim Goodwin taking over from the Northern Irishman. So far Goodwin hasn’t impressed all that much, with the Buddies failing to win any of their pre-season friendlies. Peterborough United beat the Paisley club 2-0 and Stenhousemuir were able to get a draw on Tuesday.
Dunfermline Athletic avoided dropping back into League One last season and they were extremely lucky that results of over teams went their way, as the Pars had a terrible run of games going into the final matches of their campaign. Nonetheless, Stevie Crawford’s side finished 3 points above the relegation zone.
There’s also been a lot of movement amongst the players at the club, with 11 of them leaving whilst another 12 coming in to replace them. The Pars will be hoping to build a strong squad to try and challenge for the promotion spots and return to the Scottish Premiership since their relegation in the 2011/2012 season. Their pre-season has been a mixed one, as the club was able to beat League One’s Forfar Athletic 1-0 away from home before losing 3-1 to Premiership side Hibs at East End Park.
St Mirren will want to start the new season well and do better than last year, so as to avoid a repeat of the situation they were in. Dunfermline will also be hoping to the same, although in the division below. The Buddies will have the home advantage going into this tie, and the huge changes made at Dunfermline could unsettle them on Sunday. We’re going to back St Mirren to win to nil here, with a final score of 3-0.
