Everton 1-4 Newcastle: Three Things We Learned

Newcastle United moved a step closer to Champions League qualification with a morale-boosting 4-1 win over Everton.

As we get closer and closer to the end of the campaign, every single game counts. That was certainly the case on Thursday night as Newcastle United squared off against Everton at Goodison Park, eventually putting them to the sword in a dominant win.

Today, we’ll be taking a look at a few of our biggest takeaways from the Magpies’ triumph.

Isak & Wilson effect

In the Premier League this season, Callum Wilson has 13 goals in 25 appearances whereas Alexander Isak has 10 in 16. While they haven’t always been fit enough to play together, the two men proved last night that they are the real deal. Wilson managed to grab a brace, with Isak putting together a magnificent passage of play that highlighted his quality. Watch out, because this partnership is lethal.

‘Soft’ Everton

In the aftermath of the game, Everton boss Sean Dyche dubbed his side “soft” after being humbled by the Geordies. Thousands upon thousands of fans had already left the stadium before the full-time whistle had blown, and we can’t say that we blame them. The Toffees are a shell of their former selves and at this stage, it’s actually getting difficult to picture a scenario in which they’re able to avoid the drop.

The future is now

We all wondered how long it would take for Newcastle United to become genuine contenders – but it’s time to stop wondering. They are already shaking up the foundation of English football and Eddie Howe is leading the charge on that front. The boys from the north had a stumble following the League Cup final but since that point, they have bounced back in some style. Watch out, Europe, because this sleeping giant is ready to make up for lost time.
