Fulham 0-1 Chelsea: Three Things We Learned

Chelsea have revitalised their chances of winning the Premier League title this season with a narrow 1-0 win against Fulham in the London derby.

The Blues got the better of Fulham 1-0 away from home at Craven Cottage in London in the Premier League.

Mason Mount scored the only goal of the 78th minute when he found the back of the net with a half-volley after Alphonse Areola flapped at Ben Chilwell’s cross.

The 22-year-old England international attacking midfielder had earlier hit the crossbar.

Fulham played the entire second half with just 10 men after Antonee Robinson was sent off late in the first period for a dangerous tackle on Cesar Azpilicueta.

The win against Fulham means that Chelsea are now seventh in the Premier League table with 29 points from 18 matches, their odds of winning the title this season at 50/1.

Below are three things we learned from the match.

There’s fight left in Fulham

Not so long ago it looked as though Fulham were destined for the dreaded drop to the Championship. However, things are looking better for Scott Parker’s side at the moment. Fulham held Tottenham Hotspur to a draw in midweek and now they lost by a single goal to another top-four challengers Chelsea. There’s still enough fight left in Fulham, and fans should optimistic about the team escaping the dreaded drop to the Championship.

Importance of Mason Mount

Mason Mount has been superb for Chelsea in certain games this season, and there is no doubt that the Englishman is a key figure for the Blues. The 22-year-old scores goals and creates chances for his teammates, and for Frank Lampard’s side to end up in the top four and/or to challenge for the Premier League, he will have to be on top of his game. According to WhoScored, the youngster has scored two goals and provided three assists in 17 Premier League games for Chelsea so far this season.

Timo Werner needs to be kept out of the team

Timo Werner started his Chelsea career well, but the Germany international forward is having a bad spell at the moment. There is no doubt that the 24-year-old is a quality player, but for now, it would be prudent of manager Lampard to leave him out of the starting lineup. Werner did not start against Fulham and he did not do particularly well after he came on. It is best that the 24-year-old stays out of the starting lineup for now.
