Inter Milan 1-1 Juventus: Three Things We Learned

Serie A has gotten off to an electric start so far this season with a parade of clubs really stepping up their game in the hunt for the title and the top four. Two juggernauts who have been in the mix for longer than most of us can remember is Inter Milan and Juventus, and on Sunday, they played out an intense clash that ended with the pair sharing the spoils as a result of a late penalty for Juve. The goal cancelled out Edin Dzeko’s first half effort and, in totality, probably isn’t a great outcome for either team.

Juve dig deep

Juventus had their back against the wall in this one, knowing that a defeat could serve as the catalyst behind a drop in their form as their Champions League push continues. Instead of wilting away, though, they actually managed to get stronger as the fixture progressed, which is the kind of championship mentality that’s going to be so key for them between now and May. They’re one of the biggest clubs in world football for a reason and Inter quickly came to learn that this handover isn’t going to be as simple as we once thought.

Inzaghi loses it

The decision to award a late penalty to Juventus was always going to be controversial, and it was probably always going to wind up Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi. Even so, few could’ve expected him to throw a tantrum so large that he actually got himself sent off. Thankfully for Inter things didn’t go even further south from there because give how quickly the momentum was shifting, another Juve goal wouldn’t have felt all too shocking.

Can Inter bounce back?

Inter Milan are the reigning champions but they’re also seven points behind both Napoli and AC Milan who occupy the top two spots in the title race. It’s not like they can’t claw their way back into contention but with the Champions League also being something they need to give real focus to, they’re definitely at risk of spreading themselves too thin.

With respect to their squad they’ve definitely got some elite players in their ranks but they may want to bring in a few more reinforcements in the January transfer window. They have to be able to see out wins in the league until the bitter end, showing us real heart and a drive to be the best.
