Inter Milan 2-1 Juventus: Three Things We Learned

The Supercoppa Italia went down last night between Inter Milan and Juventus, and it was exactly as dramatic as many were anticipating it to be. These two clubs are in very different places right now and while there’s still half a season to go, it was still pretty intriguing to see how they’re both situated heading into such a gruelling period.

In the end, Inter Milan came out on top with a narrow 2-1 win that firmly establishes them as the team to beat in what many hope to be the beginning of a new golden era for Italian

Inter’s rise defined

Inter Milan are the reigning champions of Italy, they’re in the driving seat as they prepare to try and repeat that feat, and they’re able to overcome tough obstacles when there’s seemingly no way out. Even when they aren’t playing at their best they’re capable of overcoming the odds or, rather, able to live up to the hype. Simone Inzaghi won the tournament for a third time after doing so twice before with Lazio and in the process, won his first piece of silverware in what he hopes to be a promising stint as Inter boss.

Work to do for Juve

Juventus are struggling to gain a foothold this season and that goes for domestic football more so than the Champions League – a competition they should be able to reach at least the quarter-finals of. Still, they’re beginning to steady the ship ever so slightly which proves that while they may not be the top dogs in Italy right now, they’re still just a few moves away from usurping power. It’s all about the long game with clubs like Juventus and we wouldn’t be shocked to see them end up finishing in 2nd or 3rd, even with this disappointment.

Sanchez salvation

Alexis Sanchez has failed to capture the imagination of the masses ever since leaving Arsenal and that’s not a theory, that’s a fact. Alas, the Chilean superstar has stuck to his guns in the hope that he can turn things around, and he took another big step towards doing just that on Wednesday evening. He scored the winning goal in the 121st minute to ensure that Inter didn’t have to face the agony of a penalty shootout, with Sanchez finally coming out as the hero he was supposed to be when he first made the jump to Old Trafford all those years ago.
