John Banes has said that Willian is a very good signing for Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
The Liverpool legend has praised Arsenal for being able to secure the services of the Brazil international – who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger.
Barnes has also given his take on Chelsea not willing to hand the 32-year-old a three-year contract, adding that the arrival of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig means that they did not keep Willian.
The Sun quotes Barnes as saying: “I really like Willian as a player, and I am quite surprised at what happened at Chelsea because I thought he was one of their best players this year, but he is 32, and Arsenal who are a team that need good players, clearly feel that he is worth bringing him in for an extra year just so they can secure the transfer.
“It’s a very good signing for Arsenal. I don’t necessarily feel it is a bad thing for Chelsea because they have brought in Timo Werner, other players, and are looking like they are going to make more signings, but for Arsenal, whether it is short term or long term, they had to give him the three-year contract offer, otherwise he wouldn’t be interested in joining, so well done to both Chelsea and Arsenal on this.”
Good signing for Arsenal?
Willian is one of the best and most creative players in the Premier League, and the Brazilian is a very good signing for Arsenal, who are rated at 13/8 to sign winger Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace this summer.
True, the Brazilian is now 32 years of age and is also going to earn a lot of money in salary, but he remains at the top of his game.
Willian was one of the best players for the Blues this past season and played his role in Frank Lampard’s side finishing in the top four of the Premier League table and also progressing to the knockout rounds of the Champions League.
The arrival of Willian has enhanced Arsenal’s chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League table next season.
