Manchester United tore through Bournemouth last night with an efficient performance that has solidified their spot in the top four.
The Red Devils knew that hosting a team threatened with relegation was never going to be easy – or, at least, that’s what they assumed. As such, they went out there and put a real stamp on their authority by seeing off the challenge of the Cherries with relative ease.
Today, we’re going to take a look through some of the biggest takeaways as the top flight continues to catch up following the winter break.
Patience is the key
The style of football Manchester United play, at times, isn’t easy on the eye. Unfortunately for their fanbase, that’s what it needs to look like, and they’re starting to learn that. United had to wait for their moments and while that may not work out too well against the big boys, it definitely allowed them to remain composed – even in the latter stages when Bournemouth were starting to put on a bit of pressure.
After a positive start to proceedings, Bournemouth once again conceded from a set piece which they’ve done over 10 times this season. From that point on they somewhat seemed to dwindle which, all things considered, is a shame. There is definitely some clear talent within this squad but they need to steady the ship in January. They have to first iron out defensive issues and then, if they can, bring in someone who can find the back of the net.
The start of something?
Manchester United have now won four straight in the Premier League. They are five points clear of fifth place and they are just nine points back from Arsenal. A title race is probably quite unlikely but at the very least, they are showing massive improvements under Erik ten Hag. If they can carry forward this kind of momentum then they’re looking at an incredibly positive end to the campaign between now and May.
