Sancho would prefer a move to La Liga

According to the Daily Star, Dortmund starlet Jadon Sancho would prefer a move to Spanish giants Barcelona or Real Madrid than a big-money return to the Premier League. Speculation is mounting that the winger may leave BVB in the January transfer window. The two Spanish giants, along with Manchester United and Liverpool are supposedly interested in signing the youngster.

Tension at Dortmund for Sancho

All is not rosy in the Dortmund garden for Sancho. Despite enjoying a superb season and a half in Germany, tensions have risen between the 19-year-old and BVB. The team have produced a number of unconvincing performances of late.

The youngster reportedly feels like the scapegoat for the poor displays. Recently Dortmund boss Lucien Favre decided to substitute Sancho in the first-half of their disastrous 4-0 defeat at arch-rivals Bayern Munich.

The Swiss boss also omitted Sancho from his starting line-up for Wednesday’s trip to Barcelona in the Champions League. BVB suffered a 3-1 defeat at the Nou, with Sancho coming off the back the bench to score Dortmund’s goal. The decision not to start Sancho, Favre claimed was because he felt that the winger lacked focus and he needed everybody fully focussed. This comes after public criticism from sporting director Michael Zorc.

It seems the love affair with Dortmund is dying off and the club has told the youngster not to talk to the press about a potential switch in January.

A top young talent

The British media have overhyped many a young player over the years. Most just fade into obscurity and fail to make the grade at the top level of football. Most are affected by the fame and the money goes to their heads.

However, Sancho has always come across as a youngster willing to learn and a humble guy who loves playing football. Obviously, we only see snippets of him in interviews, but he certainly does not come across as a player with an attitude problem.

Favre talks about Sancho lacking focus. However, it is easy to forget this a 19-year-old player. Granted he has a lot to learn and he will go through ups and downs just like any other young player.

However, very few players rack up the numbers that Sancho has so far in a career at such a young age. He is a top young player and he will only get better. It was always going to be difficult for Dortmund to hold on to the winger and the current situation only looks like hastening his exit.

No shortage of takers for Sancho

If Jadon Sancho is available to sign then every major club in European football is likely to be keen on signing the youngster. Reportedly he favours a switch to Spain. However, it is Manchester United who remain favourites to sign the winger at odds of 5/4.

According to numerous media reports, Sancho is United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s main transfer priority. The 19-year-old would certainly offer United a lot, but what can the Red Devils offer him? They are not in the Champions League and seemingly limping along in the Premier League.

It is easy to see why Sancho would not consider a switch to Old Trafford and would prefer to move to Spain. Liverpool are reportedly interested in Sancho, but at this current moment in time, he would have to compete with the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah for a starting role.

He could find first-team football hard to come by at Anfield. The same could be said at both Barcelona and Real Madrid. The difference is that Barcelona strike pair Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi are in their early thirties, so Sancho could well see a path into the Catalan giants starting eleven.

Looking at Sancho’s situation in Dortmund, it seems that he is unlikely to be at BVB for much longer. If he does not move in January, it would be massively surprising if he does not move on next summer. His next destination seems to be unclear at the moment. However, his attributes seem to be transferrable and I am sure he will shine at his next club, wherever that may be.
