Who are the Serie A stars that could be moving to the Premier League this summer?
With it all but confirmed that Chelsea misfit Romelu Lukaku will be making a shock return to Inter Milan this summer, many are expecting what could be a hectic couple of months in England’s top-flight.
However, while the Belgian striker might be quickly returning to Serie A, it has been suggested that a number of Italy’s big-name stars could be heading in the other direction.
What looks like it should be another enjoyable week from this summer’s transfer market, we have taken a look at a handful of Italian-based players that have been linked with a Premier League switch.
Matthijs de Ligt – Juventus
While it might appear that Paul Pogba is soon to rejoin Juventus once his current deal at Manchester United expires in a few days’ time, it looks like one of the Old Lady’s current stars could be on the way out.
With news breaking last week that Matthijs de Ligt is attracting strong interest from Premier League heavyweights Chelsea, it appears that the Blues are growing more confident in striking a deal.
Although Juventus might be keen to tie the Dutch international down to a new contract in Turin, Sky Sports have also reported that Thomas Tuchel’s men have already opened discussions over a potential swoop. De Ligt currently has a £103m (€120m) release clause with the Italian giants in a contract that is due to expire in 2024.
Watching both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leave Stamford Bridge on free transfers, it is no secret that Chelsea are desperate to add defensive reinforcements this summer.
With some outlets even suggesting that Tuchel has identified the 22-year-old as the perfect option to come in and play alongside Thiago Silva, Chelsea could even be willing to send one of their own stars in the other direction.
Sky Sport’s report has suggested that the Blues would be willing to include Timo Werner in any potential deal for De Ligt this summer.
Gianluca Scamacca & Giacomo Raspadori- Sassuolo
While Sassuolo might have eventually had to settle for a disappointing bottom-half finish in the Serie A table last season, they do have a pair of attacking stars who have gained plenty of plaudits.
Forming what was an eye-catching partnership last season in what many billed as a breakout year at the Mapei Stadium, Gianluca Scamacca and Giacomo Raspadori racked up 26 top-flight strikes between them.
Both impressing so much throughout the 2021/22 campaign that they were rewarded with a spot in Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad for this month’s Nations League, speculation has been running wild over what the future could hold for Sassuolo’s dynamic duo.
Along with it being suggested over the past fortnight that Arsenal have one eye on Scamacca, 90min stated last week that another Premier League club could have their sights set on a double swoop.
Although Europa League semi-finalists West Ham might have been heavily linked with Chelsea’s Armando Broja, 90min’s report suggests that the east London outfit have enquired about both Scamacca and Raspadori.
With all-time leading goalscorer Michail Antonio remarkably the only legitimate striking option in the Hammers’ entire squad, attacking arrivals are at the top of David Moyes’ wishlist this summer.
Victor Osimhen – Napoli
Spearheading a Napoli side that managed to clinch a Champions League return last season, there is no doubt that Victor Osimhen is a man in demand this summer.
Quickly becoming regarded as one of the best young striking options from across Europe, the 23-year-old has been heavily linked with what would be a blockbuster Premier League switch ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
Despite dealing with a string of injury issues last season, including a cheekbone fracture that kept him out for almost two months, Osimhen still bagged 14 Serie A strikes in a successful campaign at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Really hitting the ground running since making a £60million move from Lille in 2020, the Nigerian international appears to have plenty of admirers from across the Premier League.
Notching 24 goals in 51 Serie A appearances since arriving in Italy, The Sun reported earlier in the month that Manchester United’s new boss Erik ten Hag could be looking to break the bank on Osimhen this summer.
Likewise, with their controversial Saudi-backed takeover confirmed last season, TEAMtalk announced over the weekend that Newcastle are weighing up what would be a sensational swoop for the Magpies.
