Atalanta 0-2 AC Milan: Three Things We Learned

AC Milan have qualified for the Champions League after finishing second in the Serie A table this season.

Milan have ended the season with 79 points from 38 matches, a point ahead of Atalanta and Juventus, who have finished third and fourth respectively in the standings.

The Rossoneri secured their place in the Champions League with a 2-0 win against Atalanta away from home at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday.

Franck Kessie scored both the goals for Milan, and both were from the penalty spot.

Atalanta ended the game with 10 men due to the sending-off of Marten de Roon in the second minute of injury time.

This is what we learned from AC Milan’s win against Atalanta on Sunday:

Franck Kessie is a big player for AC Milan

Franck Kessie has established himself as a big figure in the AC Milan. It is never easy to hold one’s nerve and scored one penalty in a big match, never mind two. The 24-year-old midfielder showed his calmness by scoring the second in the third minute of injury time to wrap up the win.

There’s life without Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a massive player for AC Milan, but the Rossoneri showed on Sunday that there is life in the team without him. Of course, the former Manchester United striker will still be at the club next season, but Stefano Pioli’s side need not worry when he is unavailable. Milan can cope without the Swedish striker.

Atalanta must be respected

True, Atalanta lost, but once again, they finished in the top four. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have established themselves as regulars in the Champions League places, and the football they play is superb. True, Atalanta are not at the stage where they can challenge the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus for the Scudetto on a regular basis, but with a bit of investment, they will get there eventually..
