Odds Check: Who could be the Premier League’s title dark horses this season?

With the Premier League making its return to action this weekend following the international break, this season has already thrown up a string of upsets and nobody has managed to cement their spot as the frontrunner in the title chase.

Watching defending champions Liverpool hit with an ever-growing injury list that is topped by talisman Virgil van Dijk, Manchester City have also failed to lay down an early marker and make their return this weekend with just their goal difference sneaking them into the top-half of the table.

In a title race that appears too close to call already, we have taken a look at the three dark horses who could be smelling a Premier League upset this season.

Chelsea – 8/1

While Chelsea’s new-look squad might have flattered to deceive at the start of the season, Frank Lampard’s youngsters entered the international break with a thumping 4-1 romp against Sheffield United and they were in the midst of a real purple patch.

Also appearing to cruise their way to the knockout stage of this year’s Champions League, the Blues have won each of their last four appearances across all competitions and some around West London believe they could potentially make a real charge for their first time since 2017.

With summer arrival Edouard Mendy really making an immediate impact in West London and offering Lampard’s side some much-needed stability at the back, the former England midfielder finds his side enjoying a top-flight unbeaten run that stems back to September 20th.

In fact, with Lampard believing his squad are starting to find their feet, Chelsea’s 11 matches

without defeat is their longest unbeaten run since November 2018.

Tottenham – 10/1

Jumping from West London to North London, Tottenham also impressed many heading into November’s international break and some including former boss Harry Redknapp believe that Spurs have the ability to lift their first Premier League title this season.

Desperate to end their long-awaited search for a piece of silverware, Jose Mourinho’s men managed to pick up a late 1-0 win away at West Brom earlier in the month and have now managed to muster 17 points from their last seven top-flight appearances.

With Harry Kane and Son Heung-min enjoying what has become an almost telepathic relationship and spearheading Tottenham’s charge to second-spot in the table, some believe that Mourinho could have one more tactical masterclass up his sleeve.

Facing a stern test when they face back-to-back matchups against Manchester City and Chelsea over the next week, Spurs will be really smelling a chance if they can avoid defeat in both top-four showdowns.

Leicester City – 25/1

Four years on from what was undoubtedly the biggest upset in English football’s history, some around the King Power will be wondering if they can repeat history and pull off another Premier League miracle.

Picking up a 1-0 win against Wolves heading into the international break, the Foxes mark their return to action this weekend sat one-point clear at the top of the table and they have certainly bounced back from their back-to-back defeats against West Ham and Aston Villa last month.

In fact, Leicester have won 18 points in their opening eight Premier League games, their best start to a top-flight season and best start to a season since winning 19 points in their first eight games in 2008-09 in League One.

While they might not be priced at the famous 3000/1 odds that were on offer when they tore up the history books back in 2016, Leicester fans could be looking at that 25/1 if they can come past a heavily-weakened Liverpool squad this weekend.
